CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY
Jigalong is a closed Aboriginal Community and it is mandatory for visitors or contractors to gain Council approval 2-4 weeks before entry.
- Accommodation is available at the Rabbit Proof Fence Visitor Centre.
- Please inform the office of your ETA before leaving, and arrival on entry.
- Drugs and Alcohol are NOT permitted within the reserve.
- Traditional Lore areas must be avoided at all times.
- No photography or cinematography is permitted without full council approval.
- The collection of any Aboriginal art, artifacts, sacred objects or native flora/fauna is strictly forbidden.
- Always drive slowly (35klm max) within the Community boundaries.
- The dress code is casual & comfortable however ladies should be aware that provocative fashion statements may offend.
- Please be courteous in your dealings with community members and respect our local customs and traditions.
- Visitors are reminded that ceremonial lore business is usually conducted between the months of October – December each year and this is not an ideal time for conducting business.
Beware
The unsealed road between Newman and Jigalong has a loose, corrugated surface with dangerous bends, creek crossings and grids. It is also host to cattle, kangaroos and emus. Please:
- Let someone know your destination and schedule.
- Carry extra water and food.
- Carry a signal device, such as a flare or mirror.
- Get your vehicle and tyres checked.
- Carry spare parts and tyres.
- Make sure you know how to use 4WD.
- Plan your route and take maps.
- If your plans change, contact someone.
If you break down:
- Stay with your vehicle
- Make your vehicle and the immediate surrounding stand out if possible
- Conserve your food and water
